Jewish Museum

The Joods Museum in Amsterdam tells the story of Dutch Jewry inside a complex of four former Ashkenazi synagogues from the 17th and 18th centuries on Jonas Daniel Meijerplein. Founded in 1932, it reopened after the Shoah in 1955 and moved into the interconnected synagogues in 1987; architect Abel Cahen kept the partitions open so visitors walk through the original buildings. The collection ranges from ritual objects and paintings to everyday items, with a dedicated children's wing on Jewish family life. Together with the Portuguese Synagogue, the Hollandsche Schouwburg and the National Holocaust Museum it forms today's Jewish Cultural Quarter.
