The Leitmarer Felsen nature reserve covers 23.57 hectares south of Marsberg in the Hochsauerland district, first designated by the Arnsberg regional authority in 1985. Since 2004 it has formed one of three sections within the Fauna-Flora-Habitat site Leitmarer Felsen under the European Natura 2000 network, which together with the Hengesberg and Emmese reserves protects a total of 588 hectares. The rocky outcrops and surrounding woodland provide habitat for protected species typical of the continental Sauerland landscape. The area suits quiet, off-the-beaten-path hiking with no developed tourist facilities.
