Fischerhuder Wümmeniederung
The Fischerhuder Wümmeniederung is a nature reserve designated in 2006 in the Verden district of Lower Saxony, just south of Bremen, protecting the floodplain meadows and wetlands along the Wümme river. Its mix of seasonally flooded grasslands, reed beds, and alder carr makes it one of the most ecologically significant lowland landscapes in northern Germany, providing refuge for meadow-nesting birds and amphibians squeezed out of the surrounding farmland. Narrow field paths and embankment tracks offer quiet walks through an open, flat countryside that has drawn landscape painters to the nearby village of Fischerhude since the late 19th century.
