Lokomotive

The Lokomotive is a striking sandstone crag in Saxon Switzerland's Elbe Sandstone Mountains, rising about 30 metres from the Honigsteine massif just north of Kurort Rathen. The rock divides into two separate climbing summits — the Lokomotive-Dom and the Lokomotive-Esse — connected by the narrow Kesselgrat ridge, with a pointed rock spike called the Pfeife jutting beside the Esse. Together these features give the formation its locomotive silhouette and its name. At one point a weather vane shaped like a wheel was installed on the Dom, completing the steam-engine metaphor. Registered in the Saxon sandstone climbing guide, the crag offers routes at multiple grades and open views across the surrounding sandstone plateau.
