Mauerpark

Mauerpark occupies a stretch of the former Berlin Wall death strip between the districts of Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding — ground that East German border guards patrolled until November 1989. After reunification the site sat largely fallow before being gradually converted into public green space, with surviving wall segments becoming a canvas for street art. The park's global reputation rests on its Sunday open-air karaoke: Briton Joe Hatchiban started it in the early 2000s with a single megaphone, and it has since grown into a spectacle drawing thousands of onlookers to a grassy amphitheater. Every Sunday a sprawling flea market runs alongside it, trading in DDR-era memorabilia, vintage clothing, and handmade crafts. Climbing walls and beach volleyball courts fill out the recreational offer across the rest of the week.
