The MAMAC on the Promenade des Arts in Nice opened in 1990 in a striking building by Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal: four white marble towers linked by glass walkways. Its focus is on European and American avant-garde art of the late twentieth century. Nouveau Realisme is unusually well represented through Yves Klein, who was born in Nice, with his Anthropometries and monochrome IKB blue panels. Niki de Saint Phalle bequeathed more than 170 works to the museum. American Pop Art by Warhol and Lichtenstein is also on view. The sculpture roof terrace gives one of the finest panoramic views over the city.
