Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of Islamic Art inside the Pergamon Museum on Museum Island (UNESCO World Heritage) is the oldest collection of Islamic art outside the Islamic world, founded in 1904 by Wilhelm von Bode. Its 100,000 objects from the 7th to 19th century range from Umayyad desert palaces to Ottoman court art. The showpiece is the 33-metre Mschatta facade from Jordan, gifted by Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II to Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1903. Other highlights include the painted Aleppo Room of 1601 from a merchant's house, Iznik ceramics, Persian carpets and the mihrab from the Maydan Mosque in Kashan. The hall is closed until around 2027 for the Pergamon Museum's full refurbishment.
