Private museum in Athens' Kolonaki district, founded in 1986 by the Goulandris shipping family and home to the world's most important private collection of Cycladic art. The ground floor and first floor display around 350 marble figures of the Cycladic culture (3300-2000 BC) - slender, abstracted female idols with folded arms that inspired Picasso, Modigliani and Henry Moore in the 20th century. Further floors cover ancient Cypriot art and everyday culture of classical Greece. A glass connector links the main building with the Stathatos Mansion, an 1895 neoclassical work by Ernst Ziller used for temporary shows. The courtyard cafe is popular with Kolonaki locals.
