Arsenal
Moscow
Also known as: Muzeum Niepodległości w Warszawie
The Muzeum Niepodleglosci has documented Poland's long struggle for independence since 1990, from the 18th-century partitions through Solidarnosc. It occupies the baroque Przebendowski Palace on Aleja Solidarnosci, a 1729 nobleman's residence rebuilt after wartime destruction in the 1950s. Exhibits gather mementoes from the 19th-century uprisings, Siberian exile camps and underground presses of the communist era. Visitors walk through bright halls filled with original documents, posters and insignia that explain Poland as a country in perpetual contest over its own sovereignty. Temporary shows dive into specific chapters, such as Pilsudski's Legions or clandestine life under German occupation.
