Northern Railway Bridge

The Nordbahn Bridge links the Vienna districts of Brigittenau and Floridsdorf across the Danube and carries the trains of the Nordbahn, the Nordwestbahn and the Vienna S-Bahn. The first wooden bridge here went up in 1838 for the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway; the present steel truss structure dates from the postwar period after the previous bridge was blown up in 1945. Until the U6 Danube bridge, today's Georg Danzer Steg, opened, pedestrians could also use the crossing. Today it is purely a rail link, clearly visible from the Brigittenauer Lande and a favourite sunset photo subject for Vienna architecture fans.
