Hellinikon Stadium

Athens
  • Sports Facility

The Olympic Baseball Centre was built for the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics on the former Helliniko airport site along the southern coast road. The facility consists of two stadiums and two training fields, the main stadium seating about 8,700. After the Games it sat without a permanent use; Greece has no domestic baseball league, and the empty stands under the Attic sun became one of the most cited examples of abandoned Olympic venues. As part of the wider Helliniko redevelopment, most of the complex has been demolished since 2022. Anyone visiting the site today sees a vast construction zone for a new urban district.
