Palais Eskeles

Palais Eskeles at Dorotheergasse 11 is a rather modest town palace of the Arnstein and Eskeles family, one of the most important Jewish banking families of early 19th-century Vienna. Bernhard von Eskeles was a co-founder of the Austrian National Bank, and his salon was a meeting point of Congress of Vienna diplomacy. Since 1996 the building has housed the main location of the Jewish Museum Vienna, with a permanent exhibition on the history of Vienna's Jews, temporary shows and a visible storage depot. On the ground floor Cafe Eskeles deliberately picks up the salon tradition. The location between Graben and Hofburg makes a visit easy to combine with a city walk.
