Burg Gödersheim

Burg Gödersheim is the ruin of a late-Gothic moated castle set in the narrow Neffelbach valley, a few kilometres from Wollersheim, a district of Nideggen in the Düren region of North Rhine-Westphalia. Listed as a protected monument since October 1993, the site passed through the hands of the Rhineland Regional Association before being purchased in 2016 by the owner of the adjacent Gödersheimer mill, who plans to convert the surviving gatehouse and ruin walls into residential apartments — an unusual fate for a medieval fortification. Today the moss-covered remains and secluded valley setting give the place a quietly atmospheric quality, caught between centuries of decay and an uncertain future.
