Simkeshane Park

Simkeshane Park is a small, well-kept green space on Ordu Street in Istanbul's Fatih district, conveniently positioned beside a tram stop. Its real draw is historical: the park sits on the former site of the Forum of Theodosius, one of Byzantine Constantinople's grandest public squares, built in the late 4th century. Fragments of Byzantine brick arches and masonry are still visible along the park's edge, wedged between the historic Simkeshane building and the Hasan Paşa Hanı. Most visitors use it as a brief rest stop — tea sellers and fast-food options are steps away — but the exposed ruins make it a quiet, accidental archaeology site in the middle of a busy urban corridor.
