Skagerrak-Brücke

The Skagerrak-Brücke spans the Mosel at Cochem, linking the district of Cond to the town centre across 330 metres of river. Built between 1925 and 1926, it was inaugurated on 23 January 1927 by Johannes Fuchs, the provincial president of the Rhine Province. Its name commemorates the Battle of Skagerrak (known in English as the Battle of Jutland) — the largest naval engagement of World War I, fought in 1916 between the Imperial German High Seas Fleet and Britain's Grand Fleet. From the bridge and the riverbanks below, visitors have a clear sightline to Cochem Castle perched above the wooded Mosel valley slopes.
