Ruine Winneburg

The Winneburg is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle perched on a wooded ridge above the Mosel town of Cochem. Little is firmly documented about its founding, but it ranked among the strategically significant fortresses of the Mosel valley during the Middle Ages before wars and centuries of neglect reduced it to its present state. Listed as a protected cultural monument in Germany, the surviving stretches of curtain wall and tower stubs still evoke the scale of the original fortification.
