St. Augustin

St. Augustin in Stopfenheim, a hamlet of the town of Ellingen in Middle Franconia, is a Roman Catholic church originally built as a Deutschorden (Teutonic Order) house of worship. Its architecture layers Baroque structure with Rococo decoration and classicist detailing — a combination typical of southern German ecclesiastical building of the 18th century. The church stands on the site of medieval predecessor buildings, separately listed as an archaeological ground monument, pointing to a much older sacred tradition at this location. Listed as a protected heritage monument in the Bavarian Denkmalliste, it remains a quiet testament to the Teutonic Order's once-significant presence in the region.
