Kolpingturm

Built in 1594, the Kolpingturm anchors the southeastern corner of Ellingen's former medieval city wall and is among the best-preserved remnants of the town's historic fortifications. From the tower, the last still-walkable stretch of the Wehrgang (wall walk) leads to the ruins of the Weißenburger Tor, a gate demolished during World War II. For centuries the tower and wall were owned by the noble Wrede family, once the princely house of Ellingen, before they were handed over some sixty years ago to the local Kolping association — the source of the tower's current name. Today the Ellinger Kirchenstiftung administers the site. Visitors can walk the surviving section of parapet for elevated views across the town's historic roofline.
