Stanisław Staszic Monument in Warsaw

The Stanisław Staszic Memorial on the campus of Warsaw University of Life Sciences (Nowoursynowska 159, Ursynów district) takes the form of a bust carved directly into the face of a large boulder, created by sculptor Stanisław Lipski. Staszic (1755–1826) was a central figure of the Polish Enlightenment — a writer, geologist, geographer and social reformer who helped modernize Polish civic institutions. Unveiled in 1976 in front of the Primate Palace on Senatorska Street, the monument was later relocated to its current campus setting. It is an understated, rarely visited site that carries more meaning as a piece of late-communist Polish memorial culture than as a destination in its own right.
