St Catherine's Church in Warsaw

St. Catherine's Church in the southern Warsaw district of Sluzew belongs to the oldest parish in the whole city. A wooden chapel stood here in the 13th century, serving the then rural village of Sluzew. The present classicist building dates from 1848 and is a relatively plain plastered church with a gable front and small ridge turret. The attached old cemetery, with gravestones from the 18th and 19th centuries, still recalls the village Sluzew before it was absorbed into the city. Local weekly Masses are busy and weekend weddings fill the simple, brightly whitewashed interior. A stop for walkers exploring southern Warsaw rather than a target for short-stay tourists.
