Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall (Singapore)

Also known as: Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall (Nanyang), Sun Yat Sen Villa · +3

The Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall — also known as Wan Qing Yuan, or the Sun Yat Sen Villa — is a two-story colonial villa in Singapore's Balestier district, now a museum dedicated to the founding father of the Republic of China. Between 1900 and 1911, Sun Yat Sen visited Singapore nine times, using the villa as a base to fundraise and galvanize the Nanyang Chinese diaspora in support of his revolution against the Qing dynasty. The carefully restored building and its tropical garden grounds offer a rare Southeast Asian perspective on Chinese revolutionary history, illustrating how deeply Singapore's overseas Chinese community was entangled in the birth of modern China.
