Yerevan, Armenia's capital, sits between the Hrazdan River, which cuts through the city, and the broad slopes of Mount Aragats on the horizon. The Cascade complex offers terraced green spaces descending into the urban fabric, while the Kasagh River flows through the wider region to the north. Venturing further, visitors reach Lake Kari, a high-altitude lake on Aragats, and the open plains of Arayiler, with the ancient site of Artaxata stretching toward the Ararat valley. The medieval Amberd Fortress perches above the tree line at over 2,300 metres. Quieter green pockets around Republic Square and the Komitas Pantheon provide natural retreats within the city itself.
