111 South Wacker Drive

111 South Wacker Drive is a 207-meter office tower in the Chicago Loop, completed in 2005 after two years of construction. Its 51 floors hold over 90,000 square meters of leasable space and belong to the second wave of skyscrapers that followed the Wacker Drive reconstruction. The building was the first in Chicago to earn LEED Gold certification, and the architects at Goettsch Partners squeezed it onto a sliver lot by raising the tower over a glass-walled lobby with a 20-meter atrium. Pedestrians can see straight from the sidewalk into the open lobby, which functions like a transparent civic stage. At night the tower glows in restrained white above the river.
