77 West Wacker Drive

77 West Wacker Drive is a 204-meter office tower on the north bend of the Chicago River, completed in 1992. Designed by Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, it is a rare attempt in Chicago at neoclassical postmodernism, with oversized pilasters and a Greek temple capping the top. The lobby houses a glass installation by Antoni Tapies, co-curated by Bofill. The building originally served as headquarters of R.R. Donnelley and Sons, the largest US printing company. The temple cap is best seen from the opposite riverbank, where it glows in golden-yellow light at night. River tour boats pass directly beneath the narrow Riverwalk promenade in front of the building.
