311 South Wacker Drive

311 South Wacker Drive rises 293 meters and 65 stories above the south Loop, completed in 1990 to designs by Kohn Pedersen Fox. The tower carries a distinctive cylindrical glass crown that at night is lit by 1852 fluorescent tubes, making it the most brightly illuminated skyscraper in the city. The crown was sized to complement the existing Sears Tower skyline. The publicly accessible winter garden on Adams Street lets visitors enter a lobby planted with real palm trees. Seen from the Wacker Drive embankment after dark, the illuminated cylinder reads like a giant lighthouse over the south Loop.
