57th Infantry Regiment Memorial

The 57th Infantry Regiment Memorial stands on the Gallipoli Peninsula as one of Turkey's most solemn WWI commemoration sites, marking where the Ottoman 57th Regiment was effectively wiped out during the Allied landings of 1915. Their commander, Mustafa Kemal — later the founder of the Turkish Republic — famously ordered his men not merely to fight but to die, buying time for reinforcements to hold the line at Chunuk Bair and beyond. The regiment suffered near-total losses and is venerated in Turkish national memory as martyrs.
