Dur Yolcu

Liked by

"Dur Yolcu" — roughly "Halt, Wayfarer" in English — is a memorial in Çanakkale referencing one of Turkey's most recognized commemorative inscriptions, taken from a 1938 poem by Necmettin Halil Onan. The verse honors the Ottoman soldiers who fell during the 1915 Dardanelles Campaign, one of World War I's deadliest engagements, in which over 100,000 soldiers on both sides perished. Erected in 1960, the monument is a focal point of Turkish remembrance culture in the Gallipoli region and invites quiet reflection in a landscape still shaped by battlefields and military cemeteries.
