About Çanakkale

Çanakkale sits on the Dardanelles strait in northwestern Turkey, at the narrow crossing between Europe and Asia. The city is closely associated with the Gallipoli campaign of World War One; the Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial and the 57th Infantry Regiment Memorial stand as major sites of remembrance, alongside the well-known inscription "Dur Yolcu." The historic Kurşunlu Cami mosque and the waterfront Kıyı AVM shopping centre reflect the city's mix of heritage and everyday life. Home to around 134,000 people, it serves as the administrative centre of Çanakkale province.
