The BTR-80 is a Soviet 8×8 wheeled amphibious APC introduced in 1985 to replace the BTR-60 and BTR-70. A diesel engine replaced the problematic twin-petrol setup of predecessors, dramatically improving reliability. First deployed during the Soviet-Afghan War, it remains in widespread service globally today.
