Acanmul

Acanmul is a Maya ruin site on the Yucatán Peninsula in the Mexican state of Campeche, located roughly 25 kilometers north of the state capital. Its significance stems partly from its regional context: the surrounding area is archaeologically understudied, with most known sites being very small, making Acanmul a comparatively prominent pre-Hispanic center. Precise construction dates and the full extent of the settlement remain poorly documented, keeping the site an open question for Maya archaeology. Visitors encounter jungle-covered structures typical of ceremonial Maya architecture in a setting that sees few tourists and even fewer researchers.
