Adersbach-Weckelsdorfer Felsenstadt

The Adrspass-Teplice rock city — known in German as the Adersbach-Weckelsdorfer Felsenstadt — is an expansive sandstone formation in the Broumov Highlands of northeastern Czechia, sitting around 500 metres above sea level. The Wolves' Gorge of Johnsdorf, carved by the Metuje river, divides the larger Teplice rock city from its smaller Adrspass counterpart. Millennia of erosion shaped the Cretaceous sandstone into narrow corridors, towering needles and natural gates — a labyrinthine landscape that drew Romantic-era painters and poets in the 19th century. Today marked hiking trails wind through the protected reserve, while the sheer sandstone walls attract rock climbers of varying skill levels. Early morning visits, when mist collects in the gorges, give the rock formations a particularly striking character.
