Ardamullivan Castle

Ardamullivan Castle is a medieval tower house standing about eight kilometers south of Gort in County Galway, Ireland. Tower houses of this type were built between the 14th and 17th centuries as fortified residences for Gaelic and Anglo-Norman lords; Ardamullivan was likely a stronghold of the O'Shaughnessy clan, who dominated this part of Connacht for generations. The structure is designated a National Monument under Irish law. Today the castle survives as an unrestored ruin set in the flat, stone-walled landscape of the Burren fringe — remote, quietly atmospheric, and largely unchanged since its abandonment.
