Yerevan Opera Theater

The National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Yerevan is Armenia's most important state stage, a cultural anchor of the capital since its founding in 1932. It bears the name of Alexander Spendiarjan, the Armenian-Russian composer considered the father of modern Armenian classical music, whose orchestral works remain part of the house repertoire. The building is a textbook example of Soviet neoclassicism, its imposing columned portico clad in the pink tuff stone characteristic of Yerevan's city center. Today the theatre runs two stages with a programme spanning Armenian premieres, Russian and Western European opera, and classical ballet. Tickets are bookable via the official website and are notably affordable by European standards.
