Aleksander Fredro Monument in Wrocław

The bronze Aleksander Fredro Monument stands on the southern side of Wrocław's Grand Market Square (Rynek), erected in 1897 to honor Poland's foremost 19th-century comedy playwright, best known for works such as 'Revenge' and 'The Maiden's Vows'. Its journey to this location is notably convoluted: the statue originally stood in Lwów (now Lviv, Ukraine), was dismantled by Soviet authorities after World War II, and was subsequently relocated to Wrocław — a city that itself acquired an entirely new population and identity through postwar border shifts.
