Alte Donau

The U1 metro station Alte Donau, opened in 1982 in Vienna's 22nd district of Donaustadt, is a standard Wiener Linien stop with no architectural character of its own. Its main function is as a transit gateway to the adjacent oxbow lake of the same name — a former arm of the Danube preserved as a still-water body since the 19th-century river regulation works and now one of Vienna's most frequented recreational areas. The station is simply a practical starting point for the lake, sailing clubs, and lidos just beyond its exits.
