Anastasiopolis

The archaeological site of Anastasioupolis-Peritheorion sits southeast of the village of Amaxades in the Thracian regional unit of Rodopi, preserving the partial remains of an ancient Aegean harbor town. Sections of the fortification walls are still visible, hinting at the scale of a settlement that once held genuine strategic importance along the northern Aegean coastline. Whether Anastasioupolis and Peritheorion were two distinct cities or a single settlement renamed at some point remains an open scholarly question.
