Anebos

Anebos is the ruin of a medieval rock castle in the Palatinate Forest (Pfälzerwald), perched on a striking sandstone outcrop above the town of Annweiler am Trifels. Together with the nearby Trifels and Münz castles, it forms the so-called Trifels group — three closely clustered fortifications that were treated as a single complex during the High Middle Ages. Anebos likely served as an outer ward and watchtower for the grander Trifels castle, which once held the imperial crown jewels and notable prisoners including Richard the Lionheart. Today the ruin is protected as a listed monument and reached via well-marked forest trails through oak and pine woodland. The reward at the top is panoramic views over the Palatinate Forest and southern wine country, with a quiet that contrasts sharply with more heavily visited castles in the region.
