Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba

The Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba occupies a 16th-century Renaissance palace, the Palacio de los Páez de Castellejo, on the quiet Plaza Jerónimo Páez just steps from the Mezquita. Founded in 1868, it displays Iberian, Roman, and Moorish finds from Córdoba and the surrounding region. During construction of the modern extension, excavators uncovered the substantial remains of a Roman theatre directly on site; those ruins are now accessible in the basement as a walkable dig. The original palace courtyard remains open to the public during museum hours, displaying large Roman mosaics and stone sculptures in the open air. The combination of Renaissance architecture, Arabic artefacts, and in-situ Roman theatre walls offers one of the most layered historical experiences in Andalusia.
