Latour-de-Carol-Enveitg station

Latour-de-Carol–Enveitg station sits in the French Pyrenees close to the Spanish border and is arguably Europe's most technically peculiar rail junction: three lines of three different gauges and power systems converge here — standard-gauge from Toulouse, metre-gauge on the Ligne de Cerdagne, and Spanish broad-gauge. The line arriving from Toulouse crests at 1,567 metres just before the station, the highest point reached by any standard-gauge adhesion railway on the continent. Travellers changing trains here encounter a rare collision of rail cultures set against high-mountain scenery, with the vintage rolling stock of the Cerdagne line — operating since 1911 across the Catalan plateau — adding a distinctly old-world atmosphere to the interchange.
