Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet railway station

Saint-Gervais-les-Bains-Le Fayet station, located in the village of Le Fayet, serves as the key rail interchange for the western Mont Blanc area. It connects the standard-gauge line from La Roche-sur-Foron with the narrow-gauge Saint-Gervais–Chamonix–Vallorcine railway, which continues across the Swiss border as the Martigny-Châtelard line all the way to Martigny. Right at the station forecourt begins the Tramway du Mont-Blanc, a cog railway climbing to the Nid d'Aigle viewpoint at 2,362 metres — one of the main starting points for routes onto the Mont Blanc massif. The station is primarily a transit hub rather than a destination in its own right, valued most by hikers and rail enthusiasts using it as a launchpad into the mountains.
