Bayerisch Eisenstein

Bayerisch Eisenstein station sits directly on the German–Czech border in the Bavarian Forest, where two cross-border rail lines meet: the Landshut–Bayerisch Eisenstein line from Bavaria and the Czech route from Plzeň via Železná Ruda-Alžbětín. During the Cold War the crossing was effectively sealed for decades, leaving the station building largely dormant. Since 1989 it has quietly resumed its role as a functioning international junction, with regional trains from both countries sharing the same platform — one of the more tangible reminders of post-Iron Curtain Europe.
