Beaghmore

The Beaghmore stone circles comprise seven rings set amid the bogland of the Sperrin Mountains in County Tyrone, dating to around 1600 BC. They remained completely buried beneath the peat for millennia until turf-cutters stumbled upon them in the mid-20th century — an accidental discovery that accounts for their remarkable state of preservation. Alongside the circles, the complex includes multiple stone rows and cairns whose precise ceremonial or astronomical purpose remains contested among archaeologists. The remote moorland setting, with few visitors and no modern intrusions, gives the site an atmosphere of profound, unmediated antiquity.
