Beverston Castle

Beverston Castle is a medieval ruin in the small village of Beverston, Gloucestershire, about three kilometres west of Tetbury in the Cotswolds. Built from around 1225 at the direction of Maurice de Gaunt, it served as a seat of Norman power in the region through the 13th and 14th centuries. What makes it distinctly unusual is that part of the castle complex remains inhabited today, while the rest stands as a picturesque ruin beside a well-kept private garden. Listed as a Grade I structure — England's highest designation for historic buildings — the site is quietly preserved rather than tourist-developed. Visitors encounter weathered stonework, a keep in various states of decay, and the peculiar atmosphere of a place that is simultaneously a relic and a residence.
