Boč

Boč (979 m) is the highest and most prominent peak of the Haloze hills in Slovenia's Styria region, protected in its entirety as a landscape park. Its slopes are blanketed in dense pine and beech forest, a habitat documented as early as 1885 by ornithologist Otmar Reiser, whose fieldwork gave the mountain an enduring reputation among naturalists. In March and April, the strictly protected Pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis) blooms across the upper meadows in one of the region's most striking seasonal displays. One of the two summits is a military restricted zone, identifiable by its transmission mast. The accessible peak is crowned by a 20-metre observation tower offering panoramic views stretching across the Haloze to the Karawanken Alps. Hiking trails approach from several directions, with ascents typically taking two to three hours.
