Bossonnens Castle

The castle ruin of Bossonnens in the Vivisbach district of Canton Fribourg is the sole surviving remnant of a medieval lordship seat established around 1200. Classified as a Swiss cultural property of national importance (Class A), it stands among Switzerland's most protected historic monuments. The castle once commanded the surrounding road network and countryside of the Fribourg hills — from the ruined walls, the view across the Gruyère foothills remains largely unobstructed. Overgrown masonry and the undeveloped site give the ruin an atmosphere of quiet abandonment, far removed from heavily touristed castle attractions.
