Gutenburg Castle

Gutenburg Castle — also known as Gutenberg, Guttenberg, or Weithersheim — is the ruin of a medieval hilltop fortress at 223 metres above sea level, perched above the village of Gutenberg in the Bad Kreuznach district of Rhineland-Palatinate. Little is documented about its precise founding date or the noble families who held it; the multiple historical name variants suggest the site changed hands more than once during the medieval period. Today the ruin is a listed cultural monument set within forested hills, offering walkers a quiet vantage point over the surrounding landscape. On-site interpretation is minimal — the appeal is the atmospheric decay of old stonework rather than a curated visitor experience.
