Listed Building
The William F. Cribari Memorial Bridge — originally the Saugatuck River Bridge — carries Route 136 over the Saugatuck River in Westport, Connecticut, and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1987. Built in 1884, it is the oldest surviving movable bridge in Connecticut, a distinction all the more remarkable given that roughly 15,700 vehicles still cross its 87.5-meter span every day. The bridge was renamed in 2007 in honor of William F. Cribari. As a rare intact example of late-19th-century movable bridge engineering, it holds considerable value for the history of American infrastructure despite its modest appearance.
