Also known as: Seminar, Canisianum mit Kirche und Einfriedung, Canisianum Innsbruck
The Canisianum is an international Jesuit theological college in Innsbruck, named in 1910/11 after Saint Peter Canisius. The original building at Tschurtschenthalerstrasse 7 was erected in a neo-Romanesque style and remains a listed monument. From the start the college was a central training centre for Catholic priests in the German-speaking world, with graduates dispatched to parishes across central Europe and Latin America. In 2013 the institution moved to Sillgasse 6 and is still run by the Society of Jesus. Visitors can see the former building from outside in the quiet residential district of Saggen, where its round-arched windows and heavy sandstone facade still define the streetscape.
