Carl-Schultze-Theater

The Carl Schultze Theater was a significant Hamburg theatre on St. Pauli, founded in 1875 by the popular comedian Carl Schultze and operated until 1941. It stood on the Reeperbahn near the Davidwache police station and was around the turn of the century the city's most important operetta stage. Schultze staged farces, singspiel and later operettas by Lehar and Kalman for a mixed audience of citizens and dockworkers. The building was destroyed in a Second World War bombing raid. Nothing on the site recalls the theatre today - post-war buildings stand in its place.
