Third Ring Road

Also known as: Dritter Autobahnring

The Third Ring Road is a 36-kilometre urban motorway completed in 2003, located between Moscow's inner Garden Ring and the MKAD beltway. Built under Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, it was one of post-Soviet Russia's most expensive road projects, designed to relieve the city's notorious congestion. The route includes major tunnels, bridges and former railway corridors and crosses the Moskva River several times. Today it ranks among Russia's busiest roads and matters to visitors mostly as a transit artery linking train stations and airports.
